Cohuna Golf Bowls Notes

Week One of our Thursday bowls, and with an overflow of numbers organiser John managed a game for everyone by playing triples, all striving for the sponsorship of MVP feeds. He will have two greens at his disposal this week and able to revert to the popular pairs format.

Winners on the day were Phil McManus, John Cunningham and Rod Fletcher, ahead of Ian Fashan’s trio. Repechage winners were Mick Carmody, Dyanne Prendergast and Ken Hocking.  The lucky draw thanks to Kimmy’s café went to Frank Trezise, Mary Rodwell and Jan Johnston.

That led on to Sunday’s opening day tournament, which was well supported by all Northern District clubs. One side only was consistent enough to win all three games, in so doing taking home first prize courtesy of Mawson’s and Pioneer seeds. Members were Dallas Mathers, Rick Parr, Dyanne Prendergast and Gavan Hird from Cohuna B.C.

Runners up from Kerang Golf were Aldo McClelland, Mick Pors, Alison Medlyn and Craig Hicks, whilst a Leitchville side skipped by Roy Dehne came in third.

Secretary Yvonne had the pleasant tank of presenting Super-Veterans (over 80) badges to husband and wife Ron and Val Farrant, long-time workers for both the bowls and golf sections of the club.

Our ladies came up trumps as usual with a great afternoon tea, rounding off a top day. Must mention the table flowers set up by Cheryle, mainly camellias, they looked fantastic.

This week the social Tuesdays fire up, all welcome for a 1 pm start, names or attendance at the office by 12.45 will assure you of a game. It will run in the afternoon until the heat catches up with us in November.

Teams are being organised for our two practice matches, commencing with a trip to Echuca this Sunday. A reminder that the bus leaves the UNA carpark at 11 am. The following Friday (public holiday) it’s into Cohuna.
