Cohuna Golf Bowls notes
The rain unfortunately wiped out our social bowls on Tuesday, so all eyes were turned to Grand Final night on Wednesday.
Play was able to continue on the night, with Joe Distefano, Len Mathers and Geoff Hall emerging as winners of the top four after a great tussle. Winners of the second four turned out to be Alan Cooke, Winko Mcloughlan and Wayne Dehne. Many thanks to Di Woolhouse, Ruff Farrant and all other helpers who have made this such a successful event over the year.
Supper courtesy of Max and Lee was s fine addition to a great night of bowls.
No Thursday pairs, just the one week break before the pie and soup series begins on the 26th. Ian Coates has room for a couple more teams if you would like to take part. A reminder it’s triples with casual dress.
The final of a couple more club events were played on Friday, with Col Barton and Mick Carmody coming up trumps in the pairs against Frank Tonn and Daryl Weymouth. Brandon Keely prevailed in the minor singles after a tight game with Ian Morrison.
A couple of sides took part in Bendigo Country Week, with Peter and Ron reaching the finals in the pairs, and then combining with Frank and Phil to do likewise in the fours. No joy anywhere, although the Sale side that beat them in the fours went on to win the whole event. Mick Carmody and Bo Fawcett also made the finals, but were also eliminated early.
Round the tournament scene Leica Roney combined with Gunbower’s Ian and Rhonda to claim some cash at North Bendigo, whilst Frank Tonn and Kaye Holmes were on the dais at Barham.
The main event over the weekend was Cohuna’s Autumn Tournament, with a couple of Golf rinks participating. No one was able to win their section, although the side of Peter, Ron. Frank and Len scored the cash for the best win in round five with a 33/4 scorecard.
Our greens will be open throughout the week, social bowls on Tuesday and our tournament on Thursday. Take advantage of the great weather, it won’t last forever.
